German POW camps for Western Allied forces generally followed the Geneva Convention, however their camps for Soviets and Eastern Europeans were almost death camps. Around 60% of Soviets and Eastern Europeans died while imprisoned. The Germans forced them to do hard labor, often to death. However soldiers from America, Britain, France and their dependences were treated in accordance to the aforementioned Geneva Conventions. While in German camps, Americans were able to recive packages from home and thanks to YMCA's some even got journals to write their experiences in.
